Triassic Period

Triassic Period 1The Triassic period fall within the Cenozoic era, this was about 220 million ago.  Before this period, the world was very unusual because Scientist believes that about 20 million years before the appearance of the first dinosaurs, the world when through the biggest extinction that ever occurred.  Over 89% of all plant and animal species then alive on land and in the sea had all died out.

In the Late Triassic that the world was still recovering and there was not the usual varieties of normal life found on earth.  There were no flowering plants which include all the common trees and shrubs we have today. The color of the plants were very dull, just the color of brown and green.  Grass was no where to be seen instead the ground was covered by ferns and mosses.

Triassic Period 2There was very few representation of any animal group that is present today, such as mammals, birds, or lizards.  During the late Triassic the animal kingdom once flourish gain with not only dinosaurs appearing but also pterosaurs (flying reptiles), various kinds of marine reptiles, the first crocodiles, turtles, and the earliest forms of mammals.

Again, extinction towards the end of the Triassic wiped out many non-dinosaurs species.  It was after that dinosaur really started to diversify.

Let’s have a look at some of those dinosaurs that lived in the Triassic period:

Coelphysis
Plateosaurus
Postasuchus
