Over 220 million years ago, dinosaurs, a vertebrate animal dominated the terrestrial ecosystem. The size of a dinosaur can range from 100 feet (30 metres) long and up to 50 feet (15 metre) tall. The smallest dinosaur was the size of a chicken, but most were in between.
The word Dinosaur was derived from the Greek words “deinos” meaning fearsome, terrible or formidable and “saura” meaning lizard or reptile.
There were many different kinds of dinosaurs that lived during different eras.
- Some were herbivorous while others were carnivorous.
- Some walked on two legs (these were known as bipedal), some walked on four (they were known as quadrupedal). Special ones can do both.
- Some were speedy while some were slow and lumbering.
- There are those which have armour-plated, have horns, crests, spikes, or frills
- Some will have thick, bumpy skin and some even have primitive feathers.
Despite their body type, nearly all known dinosaurs where well adapted for a primarily terrestrial, rather than aquatic or aerial habitat.
walk just as easily on two or four legs. Regardless of body type, nearly all known dinosaurs were well-adapted for a predominantly terrestrial, rather than aquatic or aerial, habitat.
