We’ve always been fascinated about the past, but there is one thing that fascinates us the most, they are “dinosaurs”. They were the first vertebrate animals that dominated the earth’s terrestrial ecosystems for over 160 million years ago, first appearing approximately 230 million years ago.
It was at the end of the Cretaceous Period around 65 million years ago that dinosaurs experienced a disastrous extinction which some believed was caused by high volcanic and tectonic activities, while others suggest it was major climatic changes from asteroid impact. The truth is far from the known.
Since the first dinosaur was recognized in the 19th century, thousands of fossilized dinosaurs’ remains have been found in different parts of the world. Mounted fossilized dinosaur skeletons have become one of the major attractions at museums around the world. Around 700 species have been named. There are almost 550 described dinosaur genera and many more species are to be found. Every few months or even week’s new specie is being discovered.
Dinosaurs have become a part of many cultures and are ever popular among children and adults alike. They have been a feature in best-selling books and films, and new discoveries are constantly covered by media.
